I just recently heard about this, what seems to me significant discovery, even though it’s many years old. I heard a rebroadcast of a classic RadioLab episode called Detective Stories and they went over how this discovery was made as one of their stories. What’s interesting is that only one of my friends even knew about this wrong numbering thing except for one person - and they are certainly not religious. I’m wondering how many others besides myself never heard about this even though all new bibles are supposed to have a notation about it now.

Anyways… 616 and 666 are both considered valid forms for the “Number of the Beast”; except in situations where the doctrine of the religion is based on the numerological significance of the 666 in which case the 616 information is disregarded as the Devil’s attempt at confounding the faithful. And honestly… I’ve found many faithful are often easily confounded in the first place so a number trick hardly seems required.
