AOL’s Replacement: Facebook

So I guess products and companies no longer want you to go to their website anymore. They seem to prefer you “find us at facebook.com/productname”. So… I guess this has replaced the “find us at AOL keyword productname” function.

I read an article not that long ago about how AOL could have been what Facebook has become if only they had adjusted themselves into new models instead of trying to hold on to older systems (and having a derided name of course). The corollary is that Facebook is like AOL. As more and more people lock themselves into Facebook, they don’t seem to realize that Facebook isn’t all there is online just like people previously didn’t understand that AOL wasn’t the internet.

People get their news, their contact info, their messaging, IM, party invitations, photo albums and calendar functions all in Facebook now. Even though it’s a very modern system … it’s still not much different than AOL.

I see these people like those who buy a powerful 4x4 truck and never leave the pavement and never transport anything in it besides groceries.

Just some findings from around the web. Nothing too unreal or strange; well maybe a little strange.
